Chris Garvin’s presentation and the other talks at Biomimicry 2016: The Road to Resiliency conference are now available online!

bioinspired innovations are being developed from studying termite mounds

Termite mounds maintain constant humidity and temperature, inspiring low-energy dehumidification in buildings.

In this conference presented by the Verdical Group, Chris discussed biomimicry and bioinspired innovation in the built environment. Chris specifically talked about past Terrapin projects that were informed by city- and regional planning-scale biomimicry or ecological design, including the Buffalo Niagara Riverkeeper Blue Economy Framework. He explained how these ecosystem-inspired approaches helped identify valuable and sustainable interventions for each project. Chris also discussed Terrapin’s work with smaller-scale bioinspired innovations, like building dehumidification informed by termite mounds and fungal combs.
