Bill presented on biophilic design at Workplace Trends: Environments for Wellness and Health conference on October 14th at the Royal Institute of British Architects in London. Biophilic design has been scientifically proven to reduce stress, enhance cognition, and promote learning and creativity – all desirable outcomes that improve productivity in the workplace, and thus reduce operating costs. As Bill put it, “I’m going to share with you the science behind the intuitively obvious.” His presentation kept the crowd of 200+ engaged throughout his session, and sparked new conversations about the benefits of biophilic design.
The conference participants included designers, researchers, and corporate representatives. Among the many informative presentations was a study of improved cognitive performance of the workers in a space that AECOM redesigned for the utility company, National Grid. Bill highly recommends the annual event. Be sure to take a peek at Terrapin’s publications on biophilic design, The Economics of Biophilia and 14 Patterns of Biophilic Design, while we wait for next year’s conference!
