Experience:

Villages of Loreto Bay

Leaders of this 5,000-home golf and beach resort community adjoining Baja del Sur (the oldest town in Baja California, Mexico) wanted to follow the “Intergenerational Golden Rule”: ensuring that the development would be environmentally, socially, and economically sustainable for future generations. Due to severe water and energy constraints on the site, a master plan was developed that incorporated a number of sustainable development strategies. As a result, the project is designed to produce more energy and potable water than it consumes, while restoring and protecting habitat and biodiversity. An affordable housing strategy was devised to ensure that staff are able to afford to live in the area, and the Loreto Bay Foundation and a medical center were established to assist with local social and community issues. Together these initiatives aim to improve the local economy via responsible tourism while fostering a dynamic community.
