Experience:

The Ross Institute – Center for Well-Being

The Ross Institute in East Hampton, New York blends Eastern and Western traditions to provide an innovative curriculum that prepares students for a complex, global society. Designed by Richard Cook & Associates, the Institute’s Center for Well-Being is a 44,000 square foot facility dedicated to health, community, and the development of body, mind, and spirit. A central core of local quartz serves as a circulation spine uniting athletic, assembly, dining, and informal gathering areas. Throughout the building, abundant daylight and layered spaces lend a sense of transparency, interweaving outdoor and indoor environments. From its placement in the landscape dominated by scrub oak forests to choices about natural, tactile materials and energy-efficient mechanical systems that reduce energy consumption, the Institute’s design reflects the principles of harmony and wholeness on which the Ross Institute was founded.
