Experience:

Pentagon Renovation

At the request of the Under Secretary of Defense under President William Jefferson Clinton in 1994, Bill Browning coordinated and facilitated an environmental opportunities charrette to explore the original design intent of the 6.5 million square foot Pentagon, and develop strategies to improve the building’s envelope, thermal performance, glazing performance, lighting, mechanical systems, material selections, stormwater management, and heat island issues while preserving and restoring the health of the surrounding ecosystem and site. Following the charrette, Mr. Browning was instrumental in developing guidelines to set green criteria for the renovation of the Pentagon.

Mr. Browning was recently asked by the Department of Defense to return to the Pentagon to brief the current renovation staff and familiarize them with the original green renovation documentation.
